Parish Finance Committee

The Parish Finance Committee (PFC) is an advisory committee established and appointed by the Parish Priest. The PFC provides financial analysis, advice, oversight, and stewardship of the parish finances. The membership of the PFC includes parish priest (permanent members) and five other members appointed by the Parish Priest.

The core responsibilities and duties of the Johnstown-Walterstown Parish Finance Committee (PFC) are as follows;

  • To oversee the financial affairs for the Parish and provide governance and stewardship.
  • To support the Parish Priest (PP) on matters relating to financial affairs, including the recording of donations and expenditures.
  • To provide support to the annual independent financial statement and audit by the Parish Accountants.
  • To maintain transparency and accurate records for donations and matters relations to tax rebates scheme with the Revenue Commissioners. Periodically provide updates to Parishioners on the state of financial position. To be available to address and queries or provide any clarifications, to ensure transparency and accountable.  To meet regularly (quarterly or as required) to review financial status (including donations, fundraising, expenditure, bank and loan balances).  To review items of large expenditure and allocate resources to new expenditure items.  To identify methods to maintain/increase donations and reduce costs / obtain savings in Parish running costs.
  • Ensure that the assets of the Parish (Properties and grounds) and recorded (registered), maintained and are effectively used for the benefit of the Parish.
  • Ensure that the Parish meets its obligations to employment law for the staff employed by the Parish.
  • Oversee fundraising activities for the parish
